So, yes, it's been a while. But I may not have been POSTING many earrings here, I have been making quite a few. I would like to get back to posting to this blog. The summer is so hard to keep up with anything, but as fall is here and winter is coming, I'm spending more time indoors, so I'm much more inclined to blog.
Anyway, it occurred to me the other day that it was about a year ago that I first got the idea in my head to make jewelry. And it happened in such a random way. I got a piece of direct mail in the mail about a "beading club." So even though I had never had a slightest interest in making jewelry before, I signed up! How's that for random? And the even weirder thing is that I've stuck with it. It's been such a strange thing for me... And yet, to this day, I remain obsessed with making jewelry.
I'm also quite impressed with the progress I've made. I'm kind of a tortoise, in that I like to plan things, and I'm a very good long range planner. But this I haven't planned. I've just been "following my bliss." I haven't been keeping track, but I have a sold a TON of earrings. I have my earrings in a store! How crazy is that? I even sold a few pairs at the store. : ) People are volunteering to have parties at their houses and sell my stuff. This stuff I couldn't have planned if I wanted to. But since I love doing it so much, it seems like it's just happened by magic.
Anyway, it's been pretty cool. I still don't know what the future holds. I do plan to buy a kiln in January so I can start making Precious Metal Clay. I think I'd like to start some sports-related charms and stuff, like "my first marathon" and stuff like that (to marry 2 of my hobbies). And, ok, I admit it, eventually I would like to do this full time. Even though I WANT to plan it all out, I realize I'm better off just taking one thing at a time, keeping my day job and playing it by ear.
So enough yakking, here is a pair (ok, a single, I still have to make the mate) that I based out of a design in the Earring Design Book. I am definitely going to start experimenting with the frame-on-frame thing. So many possibilities. This is a variation of the "Gisele"
I call them the "Christmas Cheers" because I have Xmas on my mind and I made them out of garnet and peridot... Jon says they look like snowmen.. the garnets are the boots and the perdiot is the tie. : )
